Although any storage enclosure that's dedicated to a single server can be called DAS, the units we list here have the distinction of a built-in RAID controller. The host server usually uses a simple host-bus adapter to connect, which can be SAS/SATA, SCSI, eSATA or even USB. As a result they are more portable, have simplified management, can offer additional capabilities and can support clustering scenarios.
