Although any storage enclosure that's dedicated to a single server can be called DAS, the units we list here have the distinction of a built-in RAID controller. The host server usually uses a simple host-bus adapter to connect, which can be SAS/SATA, SCSI, eSATA or even USB. As a result they are more portable, have simplified management, can offer additional capabilities and can support clustering scenarios. Built-in RAID controllers also make it possible to have controller redundancy: check out our High Availability Storage systems for examples of this category.
Here at PC PitStop we specifically focus on systems that offer good value and offer capabilities to fulfill a specific need. The choice between a host-based controller system or a built-in controller system can be confusing - please give us a call and we'd be happy to discuss it at length with you
